REPUBLIC DAY 

January 26th is celebrated as the Republic Day in India. This was the day when the Constitution of India came into force and India was called as a Republic. India got its Independence on August 15, 1947, the Constitution was already prepared but it came into force only by January 26th 1950. To honor the Constitution the people and the Government of India celebrates January 26th as the Republic Day and is declared as Government holiday every year. 

This day celebrated all over India with full enthusiasm, especially at New Delhi, the capital of India. The celebration in New Delhi starts with the President’s address to the Nation. It is a day to remember those who fought for the country, martyrs who died to free the country from the British rule in India. 

A grand parade is organized in New Delhi to celebrate this day that begins from Vijay Chowk and concludes at the India Gate. The parade is held by all the armed forces such as Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The various types of tanks, weapons, big guns and arms are displayed. The Military bands perform different types of tune. There is also a parade by the Police and the NCC cadets from all parts of the Nation. The salute of the National Flag by the President of India takes place, where various other Presidents from other countries who are invited to the occasion also salutes the National Flag of India. There is a special parade where they display different cultures through dance and music by the different States in India under the theme “Unity in Diversity”. The public can also come to watch the Grand Parade which is arranged for this special day. Every State in India also arrange Special Republic Day parade in which the Governor and the Chief Minister of the State will address the State and be the guest of honour.
  
All schools and colleges in India also celebrate the day with March past and drill. The programme is hosted by the Principal of the particular Institution. There will be a special speech about the Republic Day, various cultural activities. The students perform different patriotic songs, skits and the programme comes to an end with the National Anthem. 

The bravery awards will be distributed to the brave children and citizens of the country. During the parade, all the proud winners will be brought up. The most significant award that is the Padma Award will also be declared by the Government. The Veer Chakra Award will also be declared to the valiant soldiers. One of the highest civilian awards ‘The Bharat Ratna’ award will be also provided to the citizen whose contribution to the nation was most significant. Sometimes no one is found great enough who can claim this Bharat Ratna Award. 

The day is celebrated with full zeal and zest. Every Indian should be proud to be an Indian, to live in a country where great leaders were born and for the tremendous efforts to save the country.
