MY OUTREACH EXPERIENCE
Being a Post Graduate student in Loyola College, Chennai, we were taken to Nagapattinam for 5 days Outreach camp which was compulsory in order to complete our course. Since they said it was a compulsory camp, I thought that it was going to be boring. This camp was nothing like the usual Outreach Camp which the college conducts every year, instead we were taken to the areas affected by the Gaja cyclone. We were asked to cut the ruined tress and also repair the damaged houses.
That was the first time I saw small houses built totally with coconut leaves and clay, a whole village affected by the cyclone without any luxury or facilities which we get in city. Those people did not get any relief measures provided by the Government, even if it comes next to their hand one plunders the other, one receives in excess but the other doesn’t get any. There was so much love between them, also towards us but the pride of their cast and culture soaked in their blood. On the other hand, a new bondage bloomed, from classmates to FRIENDS, a new understanding, a closeness, intimacy and love between us.
